The Dragonfly design involves the Togidashi-Maki-e complimented by RADEN lacquering which dramatically display the beauty of colored ABALONE shells. Togedashi-Maki-e is a method in which gilded patterns are dried, re-coated with Urushi and burnished to a high sheen using charcoal. This style of Maki-e dates back to the 7th century.
