ONE OF A KIND VISCONTI MAKI-E

About four years ago Visconti
released less than 180 versions of their makie Four Seasons pen which sold
out very quickly. Some of these are now being resold with mixed results. The
maki-e work was similar to a grade "D" on Dunhill Namiki pens of the 1930s
meaning it was not of the highest quality.
One collector, however,
commissioned Takihero Fujita, a prominent Japanese maki-e artist to come up
with his own design on the four paneled pen, a project which had the
cooperation of Dante Del Vechio
Fujita is one of only few maki-e artists to have his work
on exhibition at the esteemed Victoria and Albert Museum in London. For this
particular project he decided to use a theme of wildlife in northern Japan,
Hokkaido. He spent months traveling to various sites to study four kinds of
animals (bears, owls, the famous Japanese red headed crane and foxes) before
embarking on a series of sketches.
To complete this work of art on this pen
Takihero spent a full year. It incorporates intricate maki-e techniques
with an unsually large amount of solid gold powder to create takamaki-e forms
of wildlife. Judge for yourself. This is a one of a kind unique pen signed
by the artist and presented in a rich Visconti hard shell case. There is an
added bonus to this pen. It uses the award winning double reservoire system
but rather than filling the pen from the back of the barrel you unscrew the
front to fill. Very handy.
